Now a Top 10 podcast and international brand helping thousands of people navigate life abroad. Known for embracing challenge and adventure, Caroline has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, trekked to Everest Base Camp, and trained for a week with Wim Hof. Today she runs four businesses, hosts events across the UK and Ireland, collaborates with major international companies, and has been featured in a six part ITV fly on the wall documentary series ‘Behind the screens’. Through A County Down Under, Caroline continues to inspire people around the world to take bold leaps, explore new opportunities, and build meaningful lives beyond the place they began
About Me
Hello, I’m Caroline Mc Kenna, also known as A County Down Under. Seven years ago, I traded County Down, Ireland, for a ‘few months’ of exploration in Australia. Enchanted by the lifestyle Down Under, I soon discovered my dream job teaching in a beautiful school. However, the journey has been a mix of highs and lows, filled with challenges and moments of solitude. Making lasting connections can be tough in a place where people come and go so frequently. Scrolling through Instagram, I noticed a trend of showcasing only the best moments, leaving the difficult times untold. This prompted me to share the real story – the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Starting with a 15-minute podcast, created with no experience and no intention of continuing, became a turning point. Three years later, A County Down Under has soared to the Top 3 podcast charts in Ireland and the UK, Top 15 in Australia, and beyond. With a diverse range of guests, including celebrities, each episode is an exploration of real experiences.
Across the globe, I’ve established Sunrise Socialⓒ communities, where we gather at sunrise every week, year-round, for coffee, chat, and a brave dip for the adventurous. Monthly events worldwide add a touch of celebration to life’s journey, emphasizing the balance we all seek. The philosophy behind Sunrise Socialⓒ is simple: no matter how challenging your night has been, the sun will rise again tomorrow.
